Elephant is pleased to present Other Moons, an exhibition of new work by Los Angeles- based artist M.L. Dodge. The exhibition marks Dodge’s first solo presentation with Elephant.

The exhibition features new wall works that reference relief sculpture, assemblage, and abstract painting. Comprised of a collection of cut up mathematically designed painted patterns, circuitboard copper, thinly poured cement and thickly poured paint the works first resemble topographic maps of desolate places.
Paralleling his cut up photographic sketches of construction sites in states of covering, this series of work aims to also distill down in-progress, structural spirits as meshed landscapes with perpetual potential. A building’s underlying nature elucidating its otherworldly qualities, oscillating between painting and rendering, sculpture and site. As almost environmental accidents intuitively scored across a revealed process, these emblems of staged time are finally placed as portraits. This is done to outline the intrinsic values of character in building that are often overshadowed by the homogeneic conformity of façade across contemporary real estate development and cosmopolitan culture.

Born in Fairfax, Virginia in 1975 M.L. Dodge has exhibited his work in the United States and Europe. Dodge was recently included in group exhibitions at Blum & Poe, Los Angeles & the High Desert Test Sites. Dodge lives and works in Los Angeles, CA.
