100% Natural
Tommi Cahill and Roger Tilton with Cynde Miller
opening Sun. Oct. 24th, 5--8pm
Elephant Art Space, 3325 Division St., Los Angeles, 90065
Cahill's photographs and Tilton's sculptures both explore what we mean by the word "natural" and what (human) nature is, using very different but complementary approaches.
Cahill's Sigma Nu photographs document the time she spent with the frat house of the title in their natural frat house environment, seemingly comfortable enough with Cahill to behave as if she wasn't there to record what transpired, while Tilton's Nature Viewing Platform gives viewers a chance to see the nature around them as well as be seen as an example of nature by other viewers.
Tommi Cahill earned her BFA from California Institute of the Arts and her MFA at Yale. Themes in her work range from gender and sexuality to perception. Currently she is working on a portrait series that provides an intimate look at background actors who are pursuing their dreams of cinematic acclaim in an unforgiving industry. Her work has been show in Europe as well as the states and is included in the collection at the Yale University Art Gallery. To visit her website click here.
Roger Tilton is a Los Angeles-born and -based artist currently living in the Inland Empire. His work encompasses installation, sculpture, performance and photography. He is a 2006 CalArts grad and has shown his work in group and solo shows both in Los Angeles and internationally including the Wignall Museum, the Outpost for Contemporary Art, and Blutenweiss (Berlin).
